Johnny based Jack on Keith Richards. He believed pirates were the rock stars of their time.
In a deleted scene, Will and Jack are seen entering the Faithful Bride, the pub. A man is being dunked into the well and spits out water just like in the ride.
The dog that holds the keys is identical and based on Walt Disney's own dog. The same animatronic dog is in other rides besides Pirates of the Caribbean, including the Carosel of Progress, Living with the Land, and Horizons. The pirate ride at Disneyland as the last one Disney built himself.
The part where Will flips the sword and hands it to Gov. Swann took fifteen takes or more, because Orli kept dropping the sword.
In one of the deleted scenes where Jack, Pintel, and Regetti talk about the French, Jack's last line in the clip is "I'll get me coat." This is a reference to The Fast Show, which had Depp in its final show.
Also in the French deleted scene, Jack says something about the French being great singers. His wife/girlfriend is French singer Vanessa Paradis.
When Barbossa says he fells cold and drops dead, we then see Barbossa's apple dropping from his hand. In Snow White, another Disney movie, she is poisoned by the witch and drops the apple in the same way.
The leathery glove thing Jack wears is based on one that Johnny wore in another of his movies. The costume designer rented all his movies and watched them in order to duplicate the exact leathery glove Johnny wanted.
When Jack chops off the feather in Barbossa's hat during the ca ve duel, he laughs and it sounds like the one Kermit does in "Muppet Treasure Island" when dueling with Long John Silver and destroys his outfit. Klaus Badelt did the score for both films.
Scarlet is almost identical to the redhead in the auction in the pirate ride at Disney.
At the very beginning of the movie, Gov. Swann looks a lot like Capt. Hook from the cartoon Peter Pan movie.
The scene where Will says "So that's the reason for all the..." and then waves his hands around like Jack, Orli made that up and asked the producer if he could do it.
As the Interceptor pulls away from the Dauntless when Jack and Will commandeer it, you can still see ropes between the two ships. The camera crew were caught off guard, since the sails were full, and the Interceptor started pulling away sooner than expected, pulling the ropes taut, and ripping off the belaying pins. Poor Johnny was hit hard in the knee with one of the pins and was knocked to the ground. It was the only shot they had of the Interceptor actually pulling away.
Johnny wears contacts in the movie. They are sunglasses contacts so Johnny wouldn't have to squint when they were filming in the sun.
Jack's pistol is the only real eighteenth century pistol in the movie.
Elizabeth falls of the fort South of Los Angeles. Jack diving off the ship was in the Caribbean. The underwater part was filmed in a tank in Long Beach. There are thousands of miles between just those three consecutive shots.
Keira walks the plank and surfaces in the Caribbean, but there were a few days between shots. Amazing that Elizabeth could hold her breath for two days.
When Will is sprayed with soot from a sack that Jack opens on him, it is actually chocolate powder. Chocolate covered Orli anyone?
Jacoby's beard is always on fire. There is a wire with copper sockets in the ends of the dreads of his beard. The crew would insert incense and burn it for the smoking effect. After every take they would have to reinsert incense and relight the beard. During the sword play, his beard would flop around, causing it to burn himself or someone else or even light up the rest of the beard.
When Elizabeth (in the romantic scene between her and Will in the ship) pulls the medallion from around her neck... The necklace was taped to the back of her neck to maek it easy to remove. The first few times she pulled it, it was too tightly attached and tore out bits of hair.
The only part of Barbossa and Jack's skeletons that were actually real were their eyes.
In the Diary of a Pirate, at the end, they show the first boat going back to the shore. If youl ook for Orli on the other side of the boat at the front, you can see his girlfriend, Kate Bosworth sitting next to him.
The French deleted scene. Jack says something about raisins and humiliated grapes. This was also mentioned in Benny & Joon.
The first Disney movie to be rated above PG, being PG-13.
Johnny's son was named after Jack Sparrow.
